What to expect during your study

Arrive at your scheduled appointment time.  If you arrive earlier than your scheduled time there may not be a technician available to greet you.

Your technician will explain and demonstrate the procedure and answer any questions you may have.

Your technician will apply tiny sensors to your scalp, face, chest, index finger and legs.  The equipment is designed to be easily disconnected for purposes such as going to the bathroom.

Your technician will monitor your brain and body activity from a separate control room while you sleep.

If a respiratory problem is observed, you may be awakened by your technician and fitted with a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device that regulates airflow.  Please note, although it is our goal to complete your study in one night, due to insurance requirements, it is not always possible to initiate therapy during the first night of your study.  You may have to return for another study if your physician determines it is necessary.

The testing will conclude between 6:30am and 7:00am.  If you wish to make arrangements for a later wake time, please contact our office staff prior to your study to make special arrangements.  Please note, for staff safety reasons this must be arranged prior to your appointment so we can arrange adequate staffing.

Your technician will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your procedure.  However, they will not be able to provide you with any information regarding your test results, diagnosis or treatment.  ONLY YOUR PHYSICIAN SHOULD DISCUSS TEST RESULTS, DIAGNOSIS AND/OR TREATMENT OPTIONS WITH YOU.
